WCTP – WIRELESS COMMUNICATIONS TRANSFER PROTOCOL

WCTP is specifically aimed at creating an easy means of passing alphanumeric and binary messages to and from wireline systems and two-way capable wireless devices.
WCTP is an XML-based* standard for communicating between disparate wireless messaging systems. Designed to address some of the issues with legacy protocols such as TAP, TNPP and SMTP as applied towards wireless communication networks.

WCTP enables a robust medium for feature-rich messaging and data transfers.
Features Supported

Version 1.1
Sent Response to ID/SMTP Redirection
Enterprise Hosts (push and pseudo-push)
Binary Data
Time-phased Delivery (deliver before, deliver after)
Alpha-numeric/Text messaging
Delivery Notifications
Getting Started

How do you get set-up to use WCTP? To send a message via the WCTP gateway, post the request here.

  • Enterprise Hosts must have "wctp" in their addresses (i.e., wctp.acme.com) to receive unsolicited, device-originated messages.
  • Customers wanting to use Pseudo-push (a.k.a., polling) will need a Sender ID. Customers may also request a Security Code. To get a Pseudo-push (polling) ID, you will need to ensure you have a defined domain name that conforms to the WCTP standards.

Resources

* XML is the Extensible Markup Language.
It is designed to improve the functionality of the Web by providing more flexible and adaptable information identification. It is called extensible because it is not a fixed format like HTML (a single, predefined markup language).

Instead, XML is actually a `metalanguage' -a language for describing other languages-which lets you design your own customized markup languages for limitless different types of documents. XML can do this because it's written in SGML, the international standard metalanguage for text markup systems (ISO 8879).
